The republic of draconeum
Strength - honor - dicipline
The draconean republic is in a difficult period. while they have won a crucial victory and that the elven coalition has retreated, the war against them is far from over. The military as well as political stability are hurting and it has become increasingly difficult to keep the enemy away from the frontiers. Draconeum is still the dominant power in the agrigean sea but for how long? In order to expand, they must first stabilize the senate and provide the army with more victories or else their morale will collapse, the republic along with it.

Since the beginning of the birth of the alliance between man and dragonkind in the year 1 A.U.C. (Ad urbe condita), the draconean republic grew into a formidable force that none seemed to be able to stop. Their martial prowesses were often the subject of poems and bardic songs. Military service is mandatory for all citizens and one of the most profound contributions a citizen can make. A rare selected few are granted magical powers by the dragon-gods and subsequently become dragon priests and join the collegium in order to complete their training.
This makes the republic militaristic and religious at heart.

on top of their military achievements, the draconean people have shown great ingenuity. Creating new socio-economical reforms as well as reaching technological milestones such as central heating in all homes, sewer systems, aquaducts amongst others. Draconeum as a city is the prime destination for scholars of all kinds since the great library provides thousands of books and scrolls about any given topics. When someone arrives to the city, it is not rare for scholars to borrow the book of a newcomer, copy it and return it with a few coins for the trouble.

Draconean society is subdivided in six different classes.
At the top of it all is the Patricians, the noble families that have unprecedented power over the republican institutions like to boast about their glorious origins.

The Equites are the higher middle-class, while they can benefit from vast wealth, they are not by any means noble unless adopted by a patrician family.

Lower middle-class members of society are the plebeians. just like the equites, a person who was born amongst the pleb can be adopted by a nobleman and reach the highest instances and roles the republic has to offer. such was the case of the illustrious consul Marcus Vitellius who solved the piracy crisis of the fourth century A.U.C.

At the bottom of the born-citizen classes are the proletarians, their likelihood of ever being noticed by the higher classes is very low since they carry out underpaid and under-appreciated jobs and even resort to theft instead.

There is a specific class for those who used to be slaves but were freed either by their owners or the senate for great services rendered. These men and women are called the Liberari. They are given full citizenship and can even obtain massive wealth, turning those ex-slaves into business or landowners.

Slaves typically come either from peoples that have been defeated by the draconean military or auctioned off by slave traders from foreign lands. They live in servitude but some of them manage to become more of a personal assistant to their master and can become quite famous.

An other notable aspect of the draconean civilization is their name structure which they called the Tria nomina.

Draconeans typically have a Praenomen (Firstname), a nomen (family name) and a cognomen (nickname). Here is a list of examples for each cathegory (courtesy of NovaRoma)
